My Life in Glass
Welcome to my site!
I have been making sand-carved glass vases, bowls, plates, drinking glasses, and lighted sculptures since 1991. I use commercial glass as a platform for my designs, which keeps my prices affordable.
I studied art metals and creative writing at University of Wisconsin-Madison before discovering the allure of glass in my final year. When I graduated in 1992, I continued my studies independently. When I moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, in the summer of 1998, I began working with Gerry White at Whiteglass Studio creating etched and carved architectural glass elements. After his retirement, our working relationship evolved and grew and I continued to create architectural glass in his studio. I have recently moved back to Madison where I am looking forward to building a new studio.
I have always loved natural images, especially of the underwater world. It's a place so rich and strange, filled with such variety, such creatures of intelligence and grace, whimsy and delight. I love also the way the quality of water has been portrayed by Japanese artists over the centuries, especially those working in wood-block printing. The power and delicacy of Hokusai's Great Wave is a huge influence on my own depictions of water. I find inspiration in the shapes of leaves and flowers, whether the primitive forms of bamboo or the flowing lines of weeping willows. The occasional animal creeps into my work: cats, lizards, birds. But always it is living things in their infinite forms which inspire me.
Contact me for a quote on architectural glass or to discuss custom etched glass. I look forward to working with you!
